The Department of Organisation and Human Resource Management (OHRM) is focused on teaching, research and extension series in the areas of Human Resource Management (HRM), organisational sciences, strategy, project management and legal issues as they relate to businesses and institutions.
The Department believes that Organisational, Institutional & People Management systems in Ghana hold the key to corporate growth and national development. We believe that Organisations need to be structured properly, that systems must be developed for people management, that employee and managerial attitudes can be shaped towards corporate ends, that systems of rewards and appraisals can be executed in such a way as to minimize subjectivity and arbitrariness. We also hold that corporate governance arrangements need to uphold the highest standards of Stakeholder Trust, Stakeholder Interest and Stakeholder Returns across and including. To this end we believe in the development of indigenous theories and concepts by which we can understand, describe, predict and improve (through a variety of interventions) Ghanaian and African organizational functionality.
We believe also that as academics, our existence cannot be divorced from the presenting problems, challenges and opportunities confronting Ghanaian organizations, we therefore strive to be connected to industry and commerce through applied as well as theory driven research, extension service and active consulting and advocacy. Faculty in the Department are active in a variety of research areas including: Project Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Business Strategy, SME Development, Legal and Regulatory environment of business in Ghana, The Police Service, Internationalization of SMEs, Organisational Culture and Structure, Corporate Values, Governance and Behaviour, Employee Motivation.
The programme aims at producing competent graduates to deal with the current and emerging complexities in industry and in their communities. Graduates are expected to recognize opportunities and develop appropriate business solutions that seek to address a particular issue. In fulfilling this, the programmes are designed to: Produce competent, innovative and dedicated graduates with knowledge, skills and initiative to provide the human resource capacity to meet the demands of national and international business environments. Develop entrepreneurial and basic business skills to enable students recognize opportunities and develop businesses to facilitate service delivery.
Based on the level of entry, the credits required for the award of first degree are as follows: * Level 100: A maximum of 132 credits and a minimum of 120 credits. * Level 200: A maximum of 102 credits with a minimum of 96 credits. * Level 300: A maximum of 72 credits and a minimum of 60 credits

The immersive, Degree in Human Resources programme introduces the foundational scopes of talent management to meet organizational objectives as a strategic business leader, guiding students to become strategic partners that understand how the human resources function supports business objectives. Offered in both a full-time or online format, students in our BS in Human Resources programme, which covers both human resources and business disciplines, will earn a degree focused on leadership development, values-based change management, and the practical application of human resources theory to real-world scenarios.
In our Curriculum, you'll improve your chances of progressing in human resources (HR) by gaining work experience involving dealing with people in organisations.
Opportunities to develop your interpersonal skills are valuable so take on positions of responsibility. You should also embrace any chance to manage other people in a working or voluntary work environment. For example, dealing with organisational policies and procedures, training and coaching, observing disciplinary and grievance procedures or supervising other people will provide an excellent insight into HR processes.
Any office or administration role will also be useful and will allow you to see how an organisation works with its employees.
This is a 4-year undergraduate programme in human resource management (HRM). It is aimed at equipping students with skills and knowledge in HRM to enable them function effectively in various entry level HR roles in private, public or not-for-profit organizations. In the first two years of study, students are required to take courses such as Language Skills, Critical Thinking, Introduction to Business Administration and Introduction to Public Administration.
In the third and fourth years, students are required to take courses such as courses such as Principles of Management, Commercial Law, Company Law, Labour Law, Human Behaviour in Organisations, Introduction to Human Resource Management, Manpower Planning, Business Policy, and Industrial Relations. Students may also opt for writing a long essay in their final year.
Three (3) passes (C6) in Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Integrated Science / Agric Science / Social Studies and three electives with aggregate score of 36 or better.
Three (3) passes (C6) in Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Integrated Science / Agric Science / Social Studies and three electives with aggregate score of 24 or better.
Candidates who were properly admitted and graduated with Diploma and at least Second Class Lower HND qualification from recognized universities and institutions shall be considered for admission.
Candidates of 25 years of age who have passed the Matured Student's Entrance Exams moderated by the university of Ghana may be considered for admission. Matured Student's Entrance Examination Access Course is available to interested candidates.
Candidate with five (5) passes in General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) and other professional qualificatios recognised by the University of Ghana may be considered for admission.
